When the Numbers Don’t Add Up, We Find Out Why.
Independent Geospatial Validation & Discrepancy Resolution
Conflicting stockpile volumes, survey measurements or site datasets? Establish what is comparable, trace the assumptions and identify what the evidence can actually explain.
Independent technical verification — not a licensed professional survey opinion, legal boundary determination or guaranteed certification.
A disagreement is a starting point, not a diagnosis.
Different numbers, different questions
ERP inventory, scale tickets and expected stock differ from measured volume. Tonnes and cubic metres need an appropriate, documented density conversion; records can also differ without a measurement error.
Different dates or site conditions
Two providers may capture different time windows. Loading, excavation, weather and changed site operations can affect the comparison; acquisition timestamps and site records matter.
Different coordinate or elevation references
Horizontal systems, vertical datums, transformations and GNSS base-station coordinate errors can shift the comparison. Review the reference chain before treating an elevation difference as physical change.
Different surfaces or coverage
Stockpile boundaries, base surfaces and cut/fill assumptions change the calculation. Incomplete point clouds, missing coverage or classification differences can also affect what is being measured.
Four services · Scoped to the evidence
Review first. Recapture when justified.
- 01
Review the existing evidence
Review deliverables, collection methods, processing reports and acquisition QA/QC before assuming a new measurement is needed.
- 02
Compare methods and references
Compare horizontal and vertical references, GNSS base-station coordinates, boundaries, base surfaces and calculation methods on a common basis where the evidence permits.
- 03
Recapture only where needed
Targeted independent LiDAR or photogrammetric recapture with an RTK/GCP control strategy where required. An incumbent comparison in the same time window is a useful option when access and coordination allow, not a guarantee.
- 04
Reconcile with a written record
Document quantified differences where supportable, source evidence, transparent assumptions, unresolved gaps and practical next steps.
What to bring to the review
- Existing reports, deliverables and collection/processing methods
- Coordinates, horizontal reference system, vertical datum and control records
- Capture timestamps, weather notes and relevant site-operation changes
- Surface and base definitions, pile boundaries and volume calculation method
- Stockpile IDs and comparable areas of interest
- Scale tickets and inventory/ERP records, plus density assumptions when relevant
Start with a non-sensitive summary. Before sharing confidential datasets, agree on authorized access, transfer method, intended use and retention. Do not send classified, restricted or third-party data without permission through public forms.
A traceable reconciliation, not another unexplained number.
The agreed scope may produce a discrepancy map or comparison table, areas of concern, a traceable audit trail and suggested next steps. Differences are quantified only where inputs support a defensible comparison.
- Source evidence → establish dates and references
- Common comparison → document surfaces and assumptions
- Difference record → distinguish observations from unresolved gaps
- Next steps → targeted verification or professional review
Incomplete records can leave the cause unresolved. No finding, accuracy or reconciliation success is guaranteed. Elev8 is not an Ontario Land Surveyor or a professional engineering firm; regulated interpretation and signed/sealed deliverables remain with qualified professionals.
