Why we built it

The drone was never the hard part.

Infrastructure organizations already have access to excellent technology.

The harder problem is getting the right information from the field when the asset is remote, linear, difficult to access, safety-sensitive, geographically dispersed, or too specialized for a routine internal drone workflow.

Elev8 was built to solve that problem.

01

Field first

A technology solution only matters if it can operate reliably in the actual environment — weather, terrain, access, safety and communications included.

02

Data second

A flight has little value unless the resulting information supports a real technical or operational decision.

03

Technology third

Elev8 selects the sensor and operating model around the requirement rather than forcing every project onto the same equipment.

The mission determines the technology.

Where we fit

Bring us the difficult acquisition problem.

01

Remote

The asset is expensive to reach.

02

Linear

Rail, utility, road or infrastructure corridor.

03

Large

Routine site workflows no longer scale efficiently.

04

Technical

The downstream team needs more than photography.

05

Specialized

LiDAR, thermal, RTK/GNSS or other advanced acquisition.

06

Complex

The operating environment requires sophisticated RPAS planning.

07

Temporary

The client needs capability without maintaining it internally year-round.

08

Repeatable

A standardized acquisition program could become an ongoing intelligence layer.

If a simple internal drone workflow solves the project efficiently, use it. Elev8 is built for what comes after that.

Founder-led

Infrastructure experience before drone hype.

Elev8 was founded by Derrick Campeau after working around complex infrastructure environments and seeing how much project time can be consumed simply trying to understand current field conditions.

That experience shaped Elev8 around the realities of infrastructure work — access, safety, coordination, technical requirements and field logistics — rather than around drone technology itself.

The goal is not to fly more drones. The goal is to give technical teams a clearer current picture of the infrastructure they are responsible for.

Operating philosophy

Use the simplest method that solves the problem.

  1. Layer 01

    Routine RGB / VLOS

When basic internal capture works, use it.

    Internal capability
  2. Layer 02

    RTK / reality capture

When spatial context and a reusable digital site record matter.

    View capability
  3. Layer 03

    LiDAR / thermal

When terrain, vegetation, geometry or condition information justify specialized sensing.

    View capability
  4. Layer 04

    Complex operations

When distance, access or mission economics justify a more advanced operating model.

    View capability
  • Not every project needs LiDAR.
  • Not every site needs thermal.
  • Not every corridor needs BVLOS.
  • And not every organization should outsource routine drone work.

Complexity should remove cost or uncertainty — not create it.

Operational discipline

The aircraft is one component of the mission.

Elev8 maintains formal internal systems for how operations are planned, approved, flown, recorded and reviewed.

Regulatory capability

Built for a more demanding operating environment.

Elev8 operates under an issued Transport Canada RPAS Operator Certificate and Level 1 Complex pilot capability.

  • Formal operational-control structure.
  • Mature RPAS safety processes.
  • Ability to evaluate more complex missions.
  • Stronger fit for remote and linear infrastructure.
  • Structured regulatory planning.
  • Pathway toward eligible advanced operations.

Specialist model

Small enough to move. Serious enough to operate properly.

01

Founder involvement

Important projects remain close to the person responsible for the company.

02

Fast technical scoping

Customers can get a direct answer about feasibility without navigating a large internal organization.

03

Flexible equipment model

Owned, rental or partner equipment can be selected around the project requirement.

04

Lower organizational friction

Specialized jobs do not need to compete with a large national work queue.

05

Remote project mindset

Difficult travel and field conditions are part of the service model — not an exception.

Honest fit

For very large national programs, a larger provider may sometimes be the better fit. Elev8 is strongest when the project benefits from specialist attention, flexibility and direct operational involvement.

Clear responsibilities

Strong project teams know where professional responsibility sits.

Elev8

Can be responsible for agreed:

  • RPAS operations
  • regulatory compliance
  • field acquisition
  • flight planning
  • imagery
  • reality capture
  • LiDAR acquisition
  • thermal acquisition
  • RTK / GNSS-supported workflows
  • agreed processing
  • acquisition QA / QC
  • data delivery

Qualified professionals

Retain responsibility where applicable for:

  • professional engineering
  • engineering design
  • engineering certification
  • cadastral surveying
  • boundary determination
  • legal survey
  • signed / sealed deliverables
  • regulated professional conclusions

Elev8 works alongside professional teams rather than pretending to replace them.

Remote field operating environment at first light

Field operations

A good plan still has to work at 6:00 AM in the field.

Technology demonstrations happen in controlled conditions. Infrastructure projects do not.

Weather changes. Access roads disappear. Communications degrade. Site conditions differ from drawings. Operations move.

Elev8 approaches field acquisition with the expectation that the real environment will always be more complicated than the proposal.

Safety

A successful mission is one that never needed to become exciting.

Plan for failure

Know what happens if the aircraft, communications, weather or site conditions change.

Limit unnecessary exposure

Use aerial acquisition where it can keep people out of avoidable field hazards.

Use the simplest operation

Operational complexity is not a badge of honour.

Hold when conditions change

Schedule pressure does not override sound operating judgement.

Document important decisions

Safety-critical decisions should be traceable.

The direction

Less truck time. More current infrastructure intelligence.

  1. Today

Specialized aerial and geospatial field acquisition.

  2. Next

Longer corridor and complex RPAS programs.

  3. Then

    Repeat remote acquisition.

  4. Future

Autonomous monitoring where regulation, site design and economics justify it.

The goal is not autonomy for its own sake. The goal is to reduce the recurring cost of getting current information from remote infrastructure.

Operating doctrine

How we make decisions.

  1. 01

    Solve the information problem

Do not begin with the drone.

  2. 02

    Prove before scale

Pilot difficult workflows before making large commitments.

  3. 03

    Buy technology after demand

Do not force customers to justify idle equipment.

  4. 04

    Keep responsibility clear

Use the appropriate engineers, surveyors and technical professionals.

  5. 05

Say no when the fit is wrong

Trust is worth more than one flight.

Founder note

A note from the founder

Elev8 started because I kept seeing the same problem around infrastructure: the information people needed was often sitting somewhere difficult, expensive or slow to reach.

The drone is only one way to solve that problem.

What we are really building is a field-intelligence capability that helps technical teams get a clearer picture of current conditions without adding unnecessary complexity to the project.

If a simple solution is the right answer, we will tell you. If the project needs something more specialized, that is where Elev8 is built to help.
