Complex RPAS Operations · Canada

Go farther when routine operations stop making sense.

Elev8 operates under an issued Transport Canada RPOC with Level 1 Complex capability, supporting advanced mission planning for remote, linear and difficult-access infrastructure.

The limit of routine operations

Sometimes the field logistics cost more than the flight.

Conventional RPAS operations work extremely well for many projects. The economics begin to change when the asset is long, remote, difficult to access or requires repeated repositioning.

Repositioning

Repeatedly moving pilots, vehicles and equipment can dominate field time on a single acquisition day.

Distance

Linear infrastructure quickly exceeds the efficiency of a single-position operation.

Access

Roadless terrain, rail ROW, forests, remote industrial areas and northern sites make ground movement expensive.

Frequency

When the same asset must be captured repeatedly, recurring mobilization becomes a major operating cost.

Complex RPAS capability is valuable only when it reduces one of these real operating burdens.

Regulatory capability

A regulated operating platform — not a marketing badge.

Elev8's RPOC and Level 1 Complex capability provide the organizational and pilot framework required to conduct eligible complex RPAS operations in Canada.

Operator

Elev8 operates under an issued RPOC.

  • formal operational control
  • maintenance systems
  • training
  • recordkeeping
  • safety systems
  • regulated operating responsibility

Pilot

Level 1 Complex capability.

  • ability to act as PIC for eligible Level 1 Complex missions
  • advanced regulatory competency

Mission

Every operation still requires a mission-specific assessment.

  • correct aircraft
  • correct declaration
  • suitable airspace
  • suitable population environment
  • regulatory compliance

The certificate creates capability. The mission determines what is actually possible.

Where complex capability pays

Why BVLOS

BVLOS only matters when it changes the economics.

Conventional VLOS

  • multiple launch points
  • repeated pilot repositioning
  • road / ATV access
  • additional ground crew
  • more field time
  • more travel

Complex operating model

Where legally and technically appropriate:

  • longer acquisition segments
  • fewer repositioning events
  • lower travel burden
  • more continuous data
  • reduced field exposure

BVLOS is not automatically better. For compact, accessible sites, conventional operations may still be faster and less expensive.

Compare Operating Models

Mission feasibility

Before asking “Can we fly BVLOS?” ask “What would make it legal, useful and economical?”

Airspace

  • controlled / uncontrolled
  • aerodromes
  • local restrictions
  • operating altitude

Legal feasibility without economic value is not a good project.

Clear distinction

BVLOS, remote operations and autonomy are not the same thing.

BVLOS

Pilot cannot maintain direct visual line of sight. Still pilot-operated.

Remote operation

Pilot may operate from a location separate from the aircraft deployment site, depending on system and regulatory architecture.

Autonomous / dock-based

Aircraft operates through an installed remote deployment system with additional infrastructure, operational and regulatory requirements.

Elev8 assesses each operating model independently. A site suitable for BVLOS is not automatically suitable for unattended autonomous operation.

Autonomous infrastructure

The long-term opportunity is eliminating the repeated truck roll.

For assets that require frequent monitoring, the greatest economic change may come from reducing recurring physical deployment rather than simply extending flight distance.

Site-specific feasibility required

Elev8 does not recommend autonomous hardware until the monitoring need, regulatory pathway, connectivity and operating economics have been validated.

Sensing

Complex operations are only useful if the data solves the problem.

RGB

Visual documentation.

Thermal

Heat-pattern and anomaly documentation.

LiDAR

Terrain and 3D spatial acquisition.

Geospatial workflows.

3D reality capture

GIS / CAD output

Integration into technical workflows.

Elev8 selects the operating model and sensing method around the required outcome — not around the most complicated technology available.

Partner capability

Add complex RPAS capability without building the organization internally.

Professional firms may only require complex RPAS capability occasionally. Elev8 provides the regulated aviation and field-acquisition layer while the professional firm retains its client relationship and professional responsibilities.

Operating honesty

Not every project needs a complex operation.

Conventional VLOS is often the better answer.

Small site

Easy access, small footprint.

Routine local capture

Internal pilot already available.

No mobilization problem

Ground movement is inexpensive.

Low frequency

One simple capture only.

No meaningful cost saving

Complex operation adds more cost than it removes.

Elev8 will recommend the simplest compliant operating model that solves the project requirement.

Credibility

Built around regulated operations.

Questions

Complex operations, answered directly.

No. An RPOC is part of the required operating framework for Level 1 Complex operations. Individual missions remain subject to aircraft, airspace, population, DAA and other regulatory requirements.

Mission assessment

Send us the operation that does not fit the normal workflow.

Share the site, corridor, mission requirement or autonomous concept. Elev8 will assess the regulatory environment, acquisition method and operational model before recommending a path forward.
