Elev8 Visions

Specialized acquisition · GPS-denied environments

When GNSS stops, the acquisition workflow has to change.

Elev8 Visions supports project-specific 3D, LiDAR and visual data acquisition in underground, enclosed and difficult-access environments using the platform best suited to the operating conditions.

SLAM LiDAR · Handheld · Backpack · Robotic · Confined-space RPAS · Interior photogrammetry

The problem

Some infrastructure cannot be captured from the sky.

Conventional aerial workflows rely on open operating space, GNSS availability, line-of-sight, normal communications and conventional launch and recovery areas. Underground and enclosed environments remove most of those assumptions at once.

The solution is not automatically a smaller drone. It is a different acquisition workflow.

Constraints introduced

  • No GNSS
  • Confined geometry
  • Poor lighting
  • Dust
  • Water
  • Repetitive geometry
  • Inaccessible surfaces
  • Communications limitations
  • Hazardous atmosphere restrictions
  • Difficult physical access
  • Rapid documentation requirement

Platform selection

Use the platform that makes sense for the environment.

Handheld / backpack SLAM

Best suited to accessible underground or interior environments where an operator can safely traverse the space.

  • Point cloud
  • 3D geometry
  • Spatial record
  • Repeat capture

Robotic / remote platform

For environments where reducing personnel exposure is valuable or physical access is constrained. Used only where technically and site-appropriately feasible.

  • Remote traverse
  • Visual record
  • Spatial data where supported

Confined-space RPAS

For visual or spatial acquisition in environments where aerial mobility provides genuine value. Not every confined space is suitable for an aircraft.

  • RGB video
  • Still imagery
  • Interior photogrammetry where conditions allow

Static / hybrid acquisition

Where a combination of SLAM, imagery, terrestrial scans or professional control produces the better dataset.

  • Hybrid point cloud
  • Registered datasets
  • Controlled capture where provided

Elev8 does not force a drone into a problem that another platform solves better.

Underground mining

Underground mine spatial capture without GNSS.

Environments

  • Drifts
  • Headings
  • Ramps
  • Underground haulage routes
  • Development areas
  • Chambers
  • Service infrastructure

  • Underground construction
  • Change documentation

Potential outputs

  • SLAM point cloud
  • 3D spatial model
  • Tunnel / drift geometry
  • Existing-condition record
  • Repeat capture
  • Visual documentation
  • Exportable geospatial data where technically appropriate

Elev8 provides acquisition and spatial datasets. Mine surveying, regulated geomatics, engineering interpretation and certification remain with the appropriate qualified professionals.

Why SLAM

Position without satellite navigation.

SLAM systems estimate platform movement by continuously comparing LiDAR or visual observations with the surrounding environment.

Illustrative process sequence

Accuracy, drift and suitability depend on the sensor, environment, trajectory, loop closure, geometry and project requirements. Elev8 does not publish universal accuracy figures.

Confined-space support

Remote visibility before physical entry where appropriate.

Remote acquisition may reduce or better target physical entry requirements where appropriate. It does not remove entry requirements, and suitability is always environment-specific.

Potential environments

  • Industrial interiors
  • Large culverts
  • Tunnels
  • Tanks
  • Vessels
  • Process structures
  • Enclosed chambers
  • Difficult overhead spaces

Potential capture

  • RGB video
  • Still imagery
  • Thermal where appropriate
  • Point cloud
  • 3D reconstruction
  • Annotated visual record

Elev8 documents condition and spatial information. Qualified inspectors and engineers remain responsible for professional interpretation, certification and regulated inspection decisions.

Industrial interiors

Interior infrastructure can be as difficult to understand as remote infrastructure.

Environments

  • Processing facilities
  • Industrial plants
  • Tunnels
  • Utility galleries
  • Chambers
  • Enclosed mechanical spaces
  • Drainage infrastructure
  • Inaccessible structure interiors

Data deliverables

What can come out of a GPS-denied acquisition.

Point cloud

SLAM / LiDAR spatial record.

3D reality model

Where imagery and geometry support reconstruction.

RGB documentation

Visual condition record.

Thermal data

Where sensor and operating conditions support radiometric acquisition.

Spatial exports

Project-specific formats for downstream professional workflows.

Hosted review

Interactive project environment where appropriate.

Deliverables are project-specific.

Not every output is achievable in every environment. The agreed deliverable set is confirmed against the environment, platform and operating conditions before work is scoped.

Repeat capture

The real value may be the second capture.

A single underground or confined-space dataset documents a moment. Repeat acquisition of the same environment turns that record into a comparison.

A baseline becomes more valuable when the same environment is captured again.

Elev8 does not claim automated deformation monitoring. Comparison workflows are defined per project with the responsible professional team.

Repeat capture can support

  • Development progress
  • Change tracking
  • Condition history
  • Geometry comparison
  • Maintenance documentation
  • Project records

Environmental & safety constraints

Not every confined or underground environment is suitable.

Feasibility is decided by the environment, not the equipment brochure. These are project-specific considerations reviewed before any deployment is proposed.

  • Explosive atmosphere
  • Methane
  • Combustible dust
  • Intrinsic-safety requirements
  • Battery restrictions
  • Ventilation
  • Water
  • Airborne particulate
  • Communications
  • Mine-specific equipment rules
  • Access permits
  • Client escort requirements
  • Emergency procedures
  • Rescue requirements
  • Line-of-sight
  • Platform recovery

Equipment suitability must be confirmed against the actual environmental classification and site requirements before deployment. Elev8 makes no claim of hazardous-location approval or intrinsic-safety certification.

Limitations

What can reduce SLAM performance.

Long repetitive tunnels

Feature-poor geometry

Dust / obscuration

Reflective surfaces

Moving equipment

Insufficient loop closure

Rapid motion

Large open voids

Complex branching environments

Specialized technology does not remove the need for good acquisition design.

Equipment position

Mission requirement first. Equipment second.

Specialized underground and confined-space acquisition is equipment-specific. Elev8 may deploy owned, rented or partner equipment depending on the project requirement.

Elev8 does not present a specific specialized platform as owned inventory unless that is verified for the project. Platform selection is confirmed during assessment.

Strong fit

When this is a strong fit.

  • GNSS unavailable
  • Difficult physical access
  • Large underground environment
  • Repeated spatial capture
  • Specialized 3D requirement
  • Remote mine / industrial site
  • Expensive mobilization
  • Qualified professional needs field data
  • Short-term specialized capacity need

Weaker fit

When this may not be the right approach.

  • A conventional terrestrial scan is simpler
  • Safe manual inspection is more efficient
  • The hazardous environment does not permit the proposed platform
  • The professional survey / control requirement exceeds the acquisition workflow
  • The project is too small to justify specialized mobilization

Elev8 will recommend a simpler acquisition method when it is the better fit.

Professional partners

  • Infrastructure contractors

Your team defines the professional requirement. Elev8 executes the specialized field acquisition.

Proof status

Capability demonstration / project-specific deployment.

Elev8 does not publish underground or confined-space project evidence it cannot substantiate. Published case records on this site cover surface acquisition work. GPS-denied deployments are scoped and demonstrated per project, and any capability demonstration is identified as such rather than presented as client project evidence.
